A Land Where Nature and Tradition Meet

Humla is a remote district in Karnali Province, in the far northwestern corner of Nepal — accessible mostly by air, and home to communities that have cultivated the land with wisdom passed down through centuries. For most of the year, food and supplies must be flown in; the isolation has preserved traditional Himalayan practices almost intact.

Humla is known for distinctive products found nowhere else: red rice and yellow rice grown only in this region, high-altitude buckwheat and mountain beans, wild cliff honey gathered by traditional harvesters, Shilajit collected from rocky cliffs at around 5,000 metres, Timur pepper, Himalayan nettle, walnuts, and a rich variety of herbs. The crisp mountain air, pure glacial streams, and extraordinary biodiversity give these products a character unlike anywhere else.
